30 years later, the 1986 New York Mets team still reigns supreme.

Ahead of Saturday’s game against the Los Angeles Dodgers, members of the franchise’s last champion were honored.

“First time we’ve been together in this ballpark. That’s the most exciting thing,” said Mookie Wilson, who is best known for hitting the famed ‘Buckner Ball’ during Game 6 of the 1986 World Series.

Along with Wilson, players like Darryl Strawberry and Ron Darling were part of Saturday’s ceremony. And many members of the ’86 team said they hoped this Mets squad can end the franchise’s 30-year World Series drought.

‘They have to play as a team. Can’t be about one player, has to be about the whole group of guys. That’s what it was like for us,” Strawberry said.
