NYS health commissioner officially declares flu ‘widespread’ in state

The flu has become more and more prevalent here in New York according to the State’s Department of Health.

This year alone the state's health department says there have been over 600 flu-related hospitalizations. Due to this, Nyack Hospital is putting their foot down. As of today, they have restricted their visitation policy throughout the hospital.

Nyack Hospital says it has seen around an increase in flu symptoms this year. Those symptoms include fevers over 100 degrees, sore throat, ear pain, vomiting, and sometimes even trouble with breathing.

Now, as of today, if you are experiencing any of those symptoms ,you will not be permitted to visit a patient at Nyack Hospital.

Visitors of all inpatient areas will be restricted to two healthy visitors, 13 years-old and over.

Experts say it's not too late to get your flu shot, as the flu season can last through May.
