NYC truck rampage: What we know about the suspect

Sayfullo Saipov is from Uzbekistan and came to the U.S. legally in 2010; he had been living in Paterson with his wife and 3 children

PATERSON - Details are emerging about the suspect in Tuesday's apparent terror attack on the West Side Highway in Manhattan.

The suspect, 29-year-old Sayfullo Saipov, is from Uzbekistan and came to the U.S. legally in 2010. He apparently lived most recently in Paterson and is said to have a wife and three children.

Neighbors say they are shocked that someone from their community could be responsible for the truck rampage that killed eight people.

Police say they believe Saipov rented a white pickup truck from a Home Depot in Passaic, and drove directly into Manhattan. He then drove the truck down the bike path of the West Side Highway, mowing down pedestrians and cyclists.
