If you aren't a resident of Orangetown, you're going to have to pay to visit its town parks.

If you head to Independence Park in Orangetown, you could be asked to show some sort of identification. And if you don't live there, you will be escorted out of the park.

The town board passed this new residency requirement for six town parks during its meeting Tuesday.

The move follows other municipalities such as Clarkstown and Stony Point.

The purpose is to help with parking, preserve the parks, cut out vandalism, and keep costs with maintaining the parks as low as possible.

Out-of-towners visiting the six parks can buy a season parks pass, costing them a hefty $250 a year for adults and $165 for children.

Day-trippers will have to cough up $25 for adults and $16 for children.

All town-recognized memorial areas will be exempted from this law. That includes Nike Park and the Sparkill Memorial Park to name a few.

If you're heading to the park with a friend or relative that does live in town, you're off the hook from paying any fees.
