Mayor of Peekskill: City will repair streets where Con Ed replaced aging gas lines

Residents have complained about damage to their cars, resulting accidents and other safety concerns

The people of Peekskill are upset over road conditions. The mayor initially called on Con Edison to repair the mess like they said they would. Now, he says the city will do the work.

Through a press release on his Facebook page, Mayor Frank Catalina says North James, Howard, Cortland, High and Seymour streets will be repaved this week, weather permitting.

Mayor Catalina sympathized with frustration people have had over the condition of some roads due to Con Ed's replacement of aging gas lines.

He promised, the city will take care of the issues instead of supervising third party contractors hired by Con Ed.

Back in July, Mayor Catalina threatened to sue the utility company for reimbursement costs if it didn't fix roads, sidewalks, uneven payment and potholes caused by installation of a new gas line.

"What we found is that where they were replacing lines, they weren't repaving right away because they wanted to make sure they were done with their whole project, which would leave a lot of streets torn up," Mayor Catalina says.

Con Ed agreed to pay at least $338,000 to repave some of streets.

People in the city have complained about damage to their cars, resulting accidents and other safety concerns. However, they are happy with the city's efforts.

Once a set of streets are done, Mayor Catalina said the Highland Park neighborhood will be next.
