WHITE PLAINS — Coaches for both high school boys and girls basketball teams have taken legal action against the Section 1 Executive Committee of the state's Public High School Athletic Association over its decision to move the championship away from the Westchester County Center.
The lawsuit, filed Friday in Westchester County Supreme Court, claims that the executive committee violated its own constitution and called the Nov. 28 vote by the committee a "secret and deceitful decision."
The Coaches Association claims that the constitution states that the athletics council is supposed to decide on championship venues, not the Executive Committee. Section 1 has not yet decided where the semi-final games will be played for both the boys and girls teams, and the lawsuit seeks to have those games played at the county center.
