The 29-year-old Rahimi has pleaded not guilty to using a weapon of mass destruction and other federal charges

NEW YORK (AP) — Jurors at the trial of a man accused of detonating a homemade bomb in the heart of Manhattan have been given a close look at a dumpster destroyed by the blast.

Prosecutors wheeled the mangled trash bin into the courtroom on Thursday at the trial of Ahmad Khan Rahimi.

The explosion last year was powerful enough to blow the bin across a busy street in Chelsea in an attack that injured 30 people.

The jury also heard testimony from a bomb squad investigator who described how the explosive was fashioned from a pressure cooker loaded with ball bearings and connected to a cellphone used as a detonator.

The 29-year-old Rahimi has pleaded not guilty to using a weapon of mass destruction and other federal charges.
