Ramapo Central School District to change name to Suffern Central School District

The change will officially take place in 30 days

Governor Andrew Cuomo has signed a name change request by the Ramapo Central School District to change their name to the Suffern Central School District.

The school board president says that all too often people confuse their district with the East Ramapo Central School District. East Ramapo serves twice as many students as Ramapo Central, and although East Ramapo has made the headlines for various issues, the school board president said they did not change their name for that reason.

State Senator David Carlucci announced his approval of the change, saying, in a statement: "This is a common-sense step that the school district is taking to help alleviate a confusion in the community and one that was widely supported throughout the community. I applaud the school district's leadership for identifying this as a potential solution and sticking to it through the end of the legislative process."
