NEW YORK, N.Y. — Though media events for the New York City Marathon were canceled on Wednesday following Tuesday’s Manhattan terror attack, the race is still on.

The New York Road Runners' marathon organizers say thousands of runners and spectators will be protected with enhanced security during the race.

“For this weekend's marathon, as with all of our events, the safety and security of our runners, staff, volunteers, and spectators is our top priority,” event organizers said in a statement. “Together, with our agency partners, we have extensive safety and security measures in place, both visible and behind the scenes. We are constantly reviewing our plans with law enforcement and will consider any necessary modifications or enhancements.”

The NYPD plan to bolster security in Manhattan and throughout the rest of the boroughs, concentrating their sniper teams at the marathon to ensure that the event is safe for runners and spectators.

“We've more than doubled our observation teams. Our rooftop observation post as well as our counter-sniper team from the emergency units throughout the boroughs, not just here in Manhattan, and we've also added more heavy weapon teams throughout the city,” NYPD Chief Carlos Gomez said.

Some New Yorkers who were strolling and biking around the marathon’s endpoint in Central Park on Wednesday say they won’t let terror stop them from living life.

“Can't control these things so I have to go on with my life. I had a lot of years from recovering myself from 9/11 and I learned a lot in that time,” Manhattan resident Marianne Toy said.
