Riders face ‘summer of hell’ as NY Penn Station repairs begin Monday

Track replacement project closes at least 3 tracks during weekdays

It’s an ongoing commuter nightmare for people from our area heading into New York City on NJ Transit lines.

Amtrak is set to begin their eight-week long program of track repairs and maintenance on Monday, making already frustrated commuters feel there is no hope in sight. FiOS1 News traveled with some of them leaving from the Nanuet train station heading to New York Penn Station.

This week, commuters were up against power outages, track issues, and on Thursday, a train derailment on the NJ Transit line — adding to what's being called the "summer of hell."

Rockland County resident Nicole Slark heading into work says her plan is to take a bus instead of the train.

Amtrak's Penn Station track replacement project will close at least three tracks during weekdays and commuters are bracing for extensive delays and cancellations.

Some were already regretting their decision to take the train on Friday.

The details of the dreaded summer train schedule that will last from July 10 to Sept. 1 have been posted and new rail schedules are available at njtransit.com.
