Rockland Community College in Suffern is inching closer to breaking ground on its first ever residence hall.

The nearly $27 million project has been in the works since 2014. FiOS1 News was the first to report plans of building the dorm last August.

The residence hall will include 324 beds, classrooms, a fitness center as well as dining options.

Staff and students say this is a win-win for the school.

School officials say they are in the final stages of securing permits from the Town of Ramapo and a request to lease the land from the county to build the residence hall.

The school is anticipating a ground-breaking this May, and a completion date sometime during the fall of 2018.
