Police have a man in custody suspected of vandalizing an athletic field in Rockland County.

Orangetown police say the driver of a pickup truck caught on camera turned himself in Thursday for vandalizing private property.

It happened late last Friday at around 9:15 p.m. on the fields of the Rockland Gaelic Athletic Association in Orangeburg.

By Saturday morning, groundskeeper Brian Pearson made a discovery.

Investigators say the driver was on the field for about two minutes, doing what's commonly known as doughnuts, before driving away.

The groundskeeper says it's not just fun and games when divots like this are created intentionally as it poses a threat to children playing there.

Pearson says the damage is estimated at around $10,000.

It's a setback for the new community center being built by the nonprofit but Pearson says there's an upside.

"I'm just glad now that the young kids have a conscience and did come forward and admitted their guilt in this,” he said.
