'Soft Targets' an ongoing target for potential terrorists

Security experts say attacks on such targets are incredibly difficult to prevent

NEW ROCHELLE — In light of the recent terror attack in New York City, security experts say that soft targets have become the new choice for terrorists.

"You drive a car, you look for a block with a lot of people on it," said David S. Katz, the President and CEO of Global Security Group, Inc. in an interview with FiOS1. "Veer onto the sidewalk, you just killed 10 people."

With attacks like this, Katz says that law enforcement is facing an incredibly difficult job.

"There is no possible way to prevent things like this from happening," Katz said. "It's just one other tool in their toolkit because now you don't have to get a gun, you don't have to learn how to make explosives even though the directions are online and readily available. You don't even have to take that step, all you need to do is quietly get ahold of a truck or a large car, or any vehicle."
