NEW HEMPSTEAD — A Spring Valley High School student Glen Edwards, 17, appeared in court wearing handcuffs on Tuesday after he allegedly called in a bomb threat to police on Dec. 1, leading the Sheriff's Office Bomb Squad to sweep the school. Nothing was found at the school.

Edwards is facing felony charges of falsely reporting an incident and making a terroristic threat.

"It was a school prank that obviously went too far that it resulted in criminal charges," said Edwards' attorney, L'Tanya Watkins.

New Hempstead Justice Michael Koplen released Edwards from jail and adjourned his case until February.

"I don't want to speak to his intent," Watkins said. "I think he's a great kid who is a great student. You see he has car loads of support, including his coach which speaks to the character of the kid. He's a 17-year-old kid."
