Hundreds say goodbye to local hero

Corey Ingram was a crew member of the USS John McCain Navy Warship when it crashed on August 24th in the waters off Singapore in an unexplained accident

The accident took the 28-year-old’s life along with nine other sailors.

Navy divers recovered the victims' remains inside compartments of the ship days after the accident

His remains are now at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 170 in his home of Poughkeepsie. Family, friends and local officially attended his wake and spoke of this unique man.

"He was very smart, outgoing, loving, it’s just a shame this happened at a young age," said David Groucher, cousin of Corey Ingram.”

The family say they are trying to hold it together but are grateful for support of community

"He did a great thing by giving his life being a hero for his country, I served for 28 years in the U.S. Air Force so I could see where he had that in him but also the outpouring is very good," Groucher said.

On Tuesday there will be a funeral service for Ingram at the Mid-Huson Civic Center at 11 a.m.
