Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino said the deal to build a major bioscience and technology center on vacant land next to the Westchester Medical Center in Mount Pleasant is one of the largest the county has ever done.

The project promises to create thousands of jobs and millions in tax revenue and rent for the county. The county executive also said the sky is the limit for what the bioscience center could do for the world.

"Just imagine if the next breakthrough drug for medication for heart disease or Alzheimer’s of cancer is born right here in our borders," said Astorino.

Fareri Associates will develop the property. Neil Deluca, CEO of Fareri estimated that “the entire process will be 18 months to 24 months."

Ultimately, the decision as to whether the center’s construction proceeds or not will be up to the Mount Pleasant Planning Board. Mount Pleasant’s town supervisor said he is pleased the project is moving forward.

"It’s a plus for local businesses, its a plus for labor, for the jobs," said town supervisor Carl Fulgenzy.

The Westchester County Board of Legislators will vote on the 99-year lease on Monday night.
