MOUNT VERNON - A garbage collection company has lost its contract with Westchester County after being accused of failing to pay his employees' benefits.

R&S Waste Services, which is owned Mount Vernon Deputy Police Commissioner Joseph Spiezio, has had a contract with Westchester County since 2011. The contract was pulled in May 2018 after the county learned that a judge ruled that the company violated the Federal Employee Retirement Income Security Act by not paying their union workers benefits.

Spiezio himself, however, was not liable for the $4.2 million in benefits owed to the Teamsters Local 813.

FiOS1 News was unable to reach Speiezio or Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Thomas for comment. Mount Vernon's City Council president also said she did not wish to comment.
