Westchester gun buy-back program proves a success

AG: ‘Unwanted guns, forgotten guns, neglected guns can become deadly guns.’

WHITE PLAINS — Sponsored by the New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, the gun buy-back program on Friday was a success, as over 100 guns were turned in to law enforcement for a cash reward. Residents turned in their weapons for a variety of reasons, and the event was an amnesty program where people could turn in both legally and illegally owned firearms.

“The reality is, there are far too many illegal, unwanted, or unsecured guns in America. And unwanted guns, forgotten guns, neglected guns can become deadly guns. Guns that endanger our children, our families, and our law enforcement officers,” Schneiderman said.

Since 2013 when the gun buy-back program started, over 1,500 firearms have been turned in.
