Westchester paints county orange to support fight against hunger

Food Bank of Westchester works yearlong to provide food for those in need

Share

September is Hunger Action Month and leaders in Westchester County are painting the county orange.

Orange is the color of hunger action, and according to the Food Bank of Westchester, action is needed.

Right now, 200,000 residents in the county — 1 out of every 5 people — are hungry and 33 percent are children, according to reports.

The food bank works yearlong to provide food for those in need. Every dollar donation they receive turns into $4 worth of fresh food.

Leaders in the county gathered to show their support in the fight against hunger.

This month, there are many ways you can help, including participating in the Miles for Meals 5K Run on Saturday at Pace University. There’s also a food truck mash-up at Empire City Casino on Sept. 10.
