Section 1 says that the coaches did not clear the fundraiser held during a in-season game beforehand

YONKERS - A charity basketball game that raised money for the Hudson Valley chapter of the GLSEN, a education organization focused on ensuring safe and affirming schools for LGBTQ students.

However, the coaches involved in the game say they have both been suspended for one game each for organizing the event that Section 1 claims was not sanctioned.

In a statement, Section 1 said: "The section's athletic council met and, given the circumstance presented by the Saunders High School vs. Somers High School game at Sarah Lawrence College, applied it's long-standing rule as no prior authorization was sought by either school prior to the game being played."

The suspensions have caught the attention of many in the teaching community, with the New York State United Teachers Organization calling for an investigation.
