Yonkers avoids job cuts with property tax hike in new budget

Property taxes will rise by 6 percent


YONKERS — City leaders were locked in a closed-door meeting until nearly 9 p.m. on Wednesday night before finally emerging with a proposed budget that will include a 6 percent property tax increase, but will not cause layoffs for the city or the board of education.
