Gov.-elect Phil Murphy attends church service in Newark, celebrates MLK Jr.

Murphy will be sworn in on Jan. 16 at the Statehouse in Trenton

NEWARK — As Gov.-elect Phil Murphy prepares to take office Tuesday, he attended a church service at Paradise Baptist Church with his wife, Tammy, in Newark to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

"We will begin leading this state tomorrow in a way that would make Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King proud," says Murphy.

Murphy took the stage to celebrate the life and legacy of the civil rights leader and to re-ignite his campaign promises of strengthening the state's economy.

"It begins with a clearer and stronger economy, and that is our mission when we take that oath of office tomorrow," says Murphy.

The governor-elect will be sworn in on Jan. 16 at the Statehouse in Trenton.
