MANASQUAN — The Howell Police Department is investigating an ATM skimming case after more than $70,000 had been fraudulently withdrawn from ATM’s at Manasquan bank locations in Howell, Manasquan, and Wall.

According to police, an ATM skimmer is a device placed over an ATM card slot that appears to be part of the ATM. The device captures account information for every card that passes through it. All while allowing customers to go about their transactions without notice. A secondary device captures victim's pin numbers as well.

The Howell Police Department was first notified of the skimming theft on Sept. 11 by Manasquan Bank employees in Howell.

Officials say First Constitution Bank in Fair Haven and several other banks in the area have also been affected.

So far in Howell Township, over 100 fraudulent transactions were committed from Sept. 9 to Oct 1.

Authorities say the overwhelming majority of cardholders whose accounts had money stolen have been from other countries.

The Howell Police Department is now asking for the public's help in identifying two suspects involved.

Anyone who used the ATM at the Manasquan Bank on East Main Street in Manasquan from Sept. 7 to Oct. 1 is asked to notify their banks and watch their accounts for any unauthorized charges.
