Train commuters in New York City headed home Friday after surviving a third week of summer service changes at Penn Station. Once again, Amtrak gave its weekly update on infrastructure repairs at the station.

"Over the last several weeks, Amtrak engineering forces have been working around the clock to renew some of the most critical tracks and switches in New York's Penn Station," said Amtrak CEO Wick Moorman.

He explains in a new video the work which has been done over the last three weeks. It includes the removal of over 1,000 feet of old infrastructure, the installation of new track and switches, and crews have poured almost 50 percent of concrete base on Track 10, the longest station track in Penn Station.

As Amtrak continues to be successful with repairs, NJ Transit has still been unsuccessful with solving the problem they have with their locomotive engineers. The locomotive engineer union urged their members to be on the lookout for engineers from other transit agencies after they claim NJ Transit requested help from Amtrak and Metro-North for engineers to cover those train operators who are exercising a union contractual option.

NJ Transit has announced they will be providing new bus service going directly to the Port Authority bus terminal starting next Thursday. Bus service will be added at two new stops along the M and E branch, in Summit and in Maplewood.

New Jersey Transit.is also alerting its customers for additional service on for concert day on Aug. 1 in anticipation of the Cold Play concert at the Meadowlands.

Service to MetLife stadium on Tuesday will begin at 4:30 p.m. from Secaucus. Additional bus service from Port Authority will be provided as well.

The transit agency is encouraging customers to monitor all alerts during this weekend. They also encouraging all riders to download necessary apps and check social media pages for updates.
