Bloomfield group hosts event to register millennials to vote

Millennials make up the 2nd largest generation of eligible voters in the United States

BLOOMFIELD — The Bloomfield Civil Rights Commission held a youth voter registration event on Wednesday at the Bloomfield Public Library, just a few blocks away from Bloomfield High School.

"We are encouraging any student who turns 18 before the election in November to register so that they can vote," said Oscar Marin Commissioner of the Bloomfield Civil Rights Commission.

According to the Pew Research Center, there were 62 million millennials of voting age in 2016, with recent statistics show that they will soon surpass the number of baby boomers in the American Electorate. However, numbers also show that only about half of those millennials who could vote in 2016 actually went to the polls.
