Car thefts and burglaries on the rise in Bergen County

52 cars have been burglarized in the past 5 months, police say all of them were unlocked at the time

FORT LEE - Police in Bergen County are warning residents to keep their cars locked after a rise in car thefts and car burglaries.

In Elmwood Park, 52 cars were burglarized in the past 5 months, and police say that all of the cars were unlocked at the time.

Authorities are also asking residents to remove or secure any valuables in their cars, and to report suspicious activity to the police.

Police say if you see someone breaking into a car, do not approach them, but call 9-1-1 and stay on the phone until police arrive.
