The scene is still very active on York Street and it seems like the work is far from over for police and the Union County Medical Examiner who are there investigating after a man was hit by a car and killed early Thursday morning in Elizabeth.

According to police, the 42-year-old Kearny man was pronounced dead on the scene at 6:20 a.m.

The stretch of York Street is an industrial road lined with warehouses and truck depots with a 25 mile-per-hour speed limit.

The victim's family came to the scene to speak with police. His mother and brother were distraught upon hearing the news. His brother identified him as Martim Allende and said he was an employee at one of the warehouses on the road and he was on his way to work when he was killed.

Police say the driver remained on the scene of the accident and no charges have been filed.

The accident is still under investigation.
