Long Branch police investigate deadly shooting near residential area

Intersection of Monmouth Avenue and Liberty Street remains closed until investigation is completed

The Long Branch Police Department is investigating a shooting where one person was shot and killed.

That shooting happened on Monmouth Avenue late Sunday night. Hours later, the street remains blocked off as police investigate the matter.

The deadly shooting occurred near an intersection in a residential area and within a three-minute walk away from an elementary school.

The intersection of Monmouth Avenue and Liberty Street remains blocked off and filled with police who are investigating a deadly shooting.

The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office has only confirmed that the shooting took place on Sunday night and said the incident is being ruled as a homicide, but have not released any other information.

Paint markings in what appeared to be in the shape of a vehicle could be seen near where officers guard the area.

This would be the second homicide in Monmouth County in the past five days after 11-year-old Abbiegail Smith of Keansburg was found stabbed to death in the back of her apartment building on Friday.

This shooting also occurred just feet away from a church.

For now, the Monmouth Avenue and Liberty Street remains closed until the investigation is completed.
