Despite recent murders, Fair Lawn residents say they still feel safe

Officials describe 2 recent murders as isolated events and not random acts of violence

FAIR LAWN - Two recent murders have shocked the community of Fair Lawn, but residents say they still feel safe.

On June 26, Roosevelt Rene was found dead inside of a home owned by New York Giants Cornerback Janoris Jenkins. Jenkins' brother, William, has since been charged with aggravated manslaughter.

then, on July 8, Ann Kaplan was found stabbed to death in her Halstead Terrace home. Her 31-year-old son, Eric, who also lived in the home, has been charged with first-degree murder.

However, despite these incidents, locals describe the borough as a wonderful, family-friendly place. Mayor Kurt Peluso described the murders as isolated incidents, done by a family member and/or friend of the victim, and not random acts of violence.
