Eruv ban in Mahwah may be coming to a close

The Bergen Rockland Eruv Association filed a federal lawsuit in August over the ban

MAHWAH — In July, the Mahwah town council introduced an ordinance preventing eruvs, a religious marker used in Orthodox Jewish communities, from being built on township property.

The ban lead to months of controversy, including a federal lawsuit from the Bergen Rockland Eruv Assocation, until the council approved a settlement with a New York Orthodox Jewish group on Tuesday.

Mayor Bill Laforet told FiOS1 News that they are still working out the language of the settlement.
