WESTFIELD, N.J. (AP) — A fire engulfed a home in New Jersey overnight, killing one person.

Westfield Fire Chief David Kelly says the fire broke out just before 3 a.m. Monday in Westfield.

Fire officials believe the blaze started on the first floor and then spread upstairs, with flames shooting from the roof.

Kelly says two others were able to safely flee the burning home, which officials say is a total loss.

The victim's name hasn't been released.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
