The event is designed to make residents be more aware of their water usage and encourage conservation initiatives

Jersey City is celebrating the third annual "Imagine A Day Without Water."

The national campaign's purpose is to get people to appreciate the value of water and to focus on ways to ensure resiliency, especially in Jersey City, which is prone to flooding.

"2017 for Jersey City is the year of water where we are focusing on water management," said Brian Platt of the Jersey City Mayor's Office of Innovation. "Specifically reducing localized flooding and minimizing pollution of our local waterways."

The initiatives to help conserve water include porous pavement to prevent flooding, getting residents to adopt catch basins, and more.

The city is encouraging residents to go to their website to see how they can help with citywide sustainable practices and events being held that are focused on appreciating water.
