Irvington High School placed on lockdown after social media threat

A former student at the school posted a message on Snapchat threatening to 'shoot up' the school

IRVINGTON — Students at Irvington High School were kept in their classrooms on Wednesday for several hours after a former student posted a threat on Snapchat threatening to "shoot up" the school.

Police say they interviewed the teen, who now attends Carteret High School, and determined the threat was just a prank. The Essex County Prosecutor's Office has charged him with false public alarm and filed it as a juvenile delinquency complaint.
