A Bergen County man accused of killing his tenant last year was indicted this week.

The former landlord of the home on Passaic Avenue in Hasbrouck Heights will now have to answer to some serious charges.

A Bergen County grand jury handed down the indictment this week for 84-year-old John Wisse, according to our partners at The Record.

Wisse is now charged with murder. The indictment indicated the murder weapon was a .38 special colt revolver.

Wisse was arrested last August after his tenant, 58-year-old Gerald Velardi, was found shot in the chest and dead inside the multi-family home.

Wisse is the one who called police. Investigators believe an argument resulted in the deadly shooting.

Neighbors then even said there was tension between the two about the potential sale of the home.

Neighbors today say people in the area have since recovered from the tragedy.

Wisse, a former county employee, has spent the last year in the Bergen County jail.

He is also charged with possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose.

Wisse will have to answer to the murder charge in court on Sept. 12.
