CLIFTON – Family, friends, and neighbors gathered together on Sunday at the Marrocco Memorial Chapel to attend a wake for Miranda Vargas, 10. Vargas was killed on Thursday during a horrific accident when the school bus she was riding in collided with a dump truck on route 80.

"Ugh, horrible, it's really horrible," friend of Vargas family Rosa Ortiz said.

"For a family to not have their daughter come home from school, it's pretty tragic," Friend of Vargas family Adrian Tepale said.

The Vargas family’s lawyer David Fried said the Vargas family’s strong faith is keeping them together.

"They have a very strong family unit, they're very devout people and I think their faith will help them get through this very difficult time but what they want and pray for is that the facts come out, the truth comes out and of course they want justice for their daughter and their hearts go out to the families of all the other children, Miranda’s classmates who were injured that day as well as the teacher who also lost her life," Fried said.

Fried said Vargas was a very loving girl.

“[Vargas was] just a lovely girl, as you probably know she is a twin and her and her sister Madison are both inquisitive young girls, religious young girls, a very close family unit," Fried said.

Fried also gave some insight as to what might happen going forward with this case, he said while the criminal investigation will be handled by either the Morris County Prosecutors office or the state police, his office will handle the civil end of the case.

"We will be looking for all sorts of issues, like whether there were seat belts, were they properly being used, but I will look under every rock, stone in an attempt to find out what happened and maybe what could have happened to save this child," Fried said.

Vargas's funeral will be held Monday morning at 9:30 a.m. at the Marrocco Memorial Chapel. On Sunday night there will be a memorial for both victims of the crash at Our Lady of the Visitation in Paramus.

A Go-Fund-Me page has been set up for Vargas family, which can be found at https://www.gofundme.com/miranda039s-going-home-service.
