Mayor Fulop files lawsuit to prevent marina expansion at Liberty State Park

The Department of Environmental Protection believes expansion could help pay for repairs

JERSEY CITY — Mayor Stephen Fulop filed a lawsuit against the Christie administration to block the construction of a new marina on the south side of Liberty State Park.

The private company Suntex Marinas, which owns the marina that is on the north side of Liberty State Park, reached an agreement with the state's Department of Environmental Protection. In the agreement, Suntex plans to expand its current marina by 10 acres and open a new 45-acre marina on another side of the park. The DEP believes that the marina expansion could help pay for much-needed park repairs, estimated to cost $43 million.

Mayor Fulop will be hosting a press conference to discuss the lawsuit in more detail this afternoon.
