Murphy signs executive order, promotes Affordable Care Act

Order mandates state agencies and websites provide information about Obamacare enrollment

HACKENSACK — Gov. Phil Murphy signed an executive order to ensure that state agencies advertise and provide people accurate information about Obamacare. Murphy signed the order at Mount Olive Baptist Church in Hackensack. The executive order says state agencies will work together, better advertise the Affordable Care Act, so every person knows their options when it comes to health care. Murphy says that nearly 280,000 New Jersey residents signed up for a health care plan in 2017, even though President Donald Trump cut funding to programs promoting enrollment.

“It was a tremendous effort and a tremendous result against all odds,” said Murphy.

According to Murphy, the executive order will make it mandatory that every state agency office and website have information about enrolling in the Affordable Care Act. There will also be training programs for state employees. Murphy says helping the uninsured helps everyone in New Jersey because it protects public health.

“This isn't rocket science, it's not expensive. It's good hygiene, and we think it could have a big payback,” Murphy said.

This is Murphy's fourth executive order since he's taken office on Jan. 15.
