OAKLAND — Authorities say two teenagers have drowned while swimming with others in a northern New Jersey lake.

The group was swimming Tuesday afternoon in Ramapo Lake in Oakland when a 17-year-old Livingston girl apparently began struggling in the water. A 17-year-old Newark boy then tried to help her but soon started struggling as well.

New Jersey park police say they were notified about "possible drownings" around 7 p.m., and the teens' bodies were found late Tuesday night. No other injuries were reported.

The names of the teenagers have not been released.

Ramapo Lake is located on the border of Bergen and Passaic Counties and is patrolled by state park police.
