Firefighters, police serve hundreds of meals for hungry residents in Newark

The program feeds those in need every Sunday

NEWARK — It’s the season of giving and volunteers in Newark stepped up to the plate on Sunday to help the less fortunate in their community.

The Hispanic Law Enforcement Society of Essex County teamed up with the Hispanic Firefighters Association of Newark to serve hundreds of meals at the Vince Lombardi Center of Hope on Sunday.

Deputy Mayor Jacqueline Quiles, who hosted the dinner, says the Vince Lombardi Center has been providing meals and encouragement to people in need all month.

"We've fed over 5,000 people this month. Every Sunday, we're here feeding families in need and people that don't have an address," Quiles said.

Volunteers from NJIT also lined up to serve meals and spread some cheer.
