Firefighters respond to early morning house fire in Garwood

Fire officials say no one was living at the time at the home on Willow Avenue

GARWOOD — A firefighter was injured while fighting a fire at a Willow Avenue early Thursday morning.

Officials say that no one was living inside the house when flames broke out before sunrise.

Firefighters responded to the scene at about 3 o’clock this morning. When they arrived, flames could be seen from the roof. The Garwood Fire Dept. Chief Allan Tweedle says there was heavy fire in the back of the structure.

"Second division fell in. The roof fell in. So, it’s probably a total loss," Tweedle said.

The owners of the house were not willing to comment on this story.

Neighbors say the family who owns the house was in the process of remodeling it.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
