Girls high school lacrosse, April 16 game


Down 10-5 with just under 15 minutes left in the second half, the Bernards Mountaineers (6-2) stormed back to tie the game at 11 with 31 seconds remaining, then Annie Thomas scored the game-winner with 18 seconds left in the first overtime to give them a huge 11-10 win over New Jersey rival Mendham Minutemen (3-5) at Bernards High School in Bernardsville, New Jersey. Junior Annie Thomas, who scored 6 goals on the day for Bernards, tallied 4 of the last 5 goals and won 7 of the game's last 8 draw controls, including the key one in overtime. Bucknell-bound senior Laurel McHale also contributed for the Mountaineers with 2 goals and 3 assists. Sophomore midfielder Carleigh Mahoney led Mendham with 4 goals.

Bernards next plays on Thursday, April 19th as they have a big showdown at 6-1 Ridge, while Mendham plays again on Wednesday, April 18th at Morris Knolls.
