Ku Klux Klan recruitment fliers wrapped in candy, distributed in Red Bank

Fliers don’t contain threats, not a crime to distribute

RED BANK – Ku Klux Klan recruitment fliers were placed in plastic bags containing candy and have been found on Leighton Avenue and Hudson Avenue, according to The Record.

Red Bank resident Frank said he's disappointed and finds the reports disturbing.

"I’d tear it up into little pieces and put it in the garbage," Frank said. "There’s no reason for it, there really isn't."

The fliers don't contain specific threats, so it's not considered a crime to distribute them.

This is the second time in recent years fliers have been distributed in Red Bank. Some residents found similar material on Martin Luther King Day in 2016.

“It's everywhere. It just happens," Frank said.

The mayor and police chief of Red Bank could not be immediately reached for comment.
