PD: Boy, 17, critical after hit-and-run on Route 27 in Linden

Investigators say car involved was found near the scene, but driver is still at large


LINDEN — Police say a car struck a 17-year-old boy on St. Georges Avenue, also known as Route 27, as he was trying to cross the street late Friday night. The driver of the car that struck him fled the scene, according to detectives.

Police say the young man was taken to University Hospital in Newark after the incident. He is now in critical condition.

A portion of east St. Georges Avenue was closed until the early morning hours of Saturday because of an ongoing investigation.

Police say the car that hit the 17-year-old is a white Nissan Altima with tinted windows. The car was found abandoned on nearby streets after the incident according to police.

Police are still looking for a suspect in the hit-and-run.
