‘Standing on the Shoulders of Giants’ in Paterson celebrates Black History Month

Newark Mayor Ras Barak presented as keynote speaker at event organized by Sen. Robert Menendez

PATERSON — Political powerhouses came together Sunday at St. Luke Baptist Church for Sen. Robert Menendez’s seventh annual "Standing on the Shoulders of Giants" Black History Month celebration. Gov. Phil Murphy helped to kick off the event by speaking generally about the country's history and its impact on the Garden State.

Sen. Menendez was tasked with introducing this year’s keynote speaker, Newark Mayor Ras Baraka. The mayor was met with several major applauses during his 10-minute speech. The crowd was so loud at times that Mayor Baraka had to take a few pauses during his speech.
