UNION CITY – A memorial for three children who died in a fire on Friday has been started on 25th Street.

Two brothers Jason Gonzalez, 2, and Christian Gonzalez, 7, died alongside their cousin Mailyn Mood, 5. Two other children and one woman are still in critical condition as well. In total seven residents were injured, and eight firefighters were sent to the hospital.

"I think it's very tragic, three small children were robbed of their lives, their whole lives they were robbed," Union City resident Gary Marchesi said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

"I think everybody in this community feels so sad about the children. I work with kids in school in this area and I am very very affected," a resident said.

Red Cross workers are helping 30 people from 8 different families find a place to live.

The Union City Fire Victims Fund and the Union City Mayor's Office are taking donations for the victims.
