NJ Republicans in support of immigration reform after DACA repeal

Rep. Leonard Lance is co-sponsoring a bill that would allow some undocumented immigrants a path to citizenship

Back in 2010, all four of New Jersey's Republican congressmen voted against immigration reform in the "DREAM Act", however, after the Trump Administration repealed Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), they are singing a different tune.

Rep. Leonard Lance is co-sponsoring a bill with Florida congressman Carlos Curbelo that would allow undocumented immigrants over the age of 16 to earn their citizenship over a 10-year period if they gain employment, go to school and earn a degree, or enlist in the military.

Fellow Republican congressman Rep. Frank Lobiondo, Chris Smith and Rodney Frelinghuysen all have released statements supporting immigration reform as quickly as possible.

"It's the responsibility of congress to enact legislation int his regard, and I think legislation is much more permanent than any executive order," Rep. Lance said.

There is currently no word as to if or when a vote on immigration reform would be scheduled in congress.
