MAHWAH - Mayor Bill Laforet is facing a recall vote after a petition garnered over 5,000 signatures.

"What I heard around town as this was going on is that they're concenred the Mayor is more concerned about his own image than the town and what's going on in the town," said Robert Hermansen, the Mahwah Council President.

Laforet has 10 days to challenge the recall, and then 5 days after those 10 days where he could resign.

Mayor Laforet did not respond to a request for comment from FiOS1 News.

This is the second effort regarding Mayor Laforet, the first happened in 2015 but the group was unable to collect enough signatures by their deadlines.
