Gala promotes social reform to coincide with Juneteenth

NJ Institute for Social Justice honors former US attorney general, NY attorney general candidate

NEWARK — The New Jersey Institute for Social Justice held its 13th annual ceremony at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center on Tuesday night. Honorees included former U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch, who received the National Social Justice Award, and Verizon State Government Affairs Vice President Leecia Eve, who received the Community Builder Award. Eve is also a candidate to be New York's attorney general.

The event was held to coincide with Juneteenth, the holiday celebrated by African-Americans to commemorate the end of American slavery. The institute fights structural inequality, advocates for raising minimum wage, enables people with criminal convictions to vote, among other reforms.
