22 people from 14 different nations became American citizens on Friday at the Stueben House, the historic home that briefly served as George Washington's headquarters during the Revolutionary War.

Officials from the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services say that, given recent issues surrounding immigration in the nation, Friday was an emotional day for many of the new citizens.

"We always say this is the best part of our job, especially the end process where you see the joy that people experience, it is an amazing experience to work with people as they achieve this goal and become U.S. citizens," said Katie Tichacek, Public Affairs Officer for the USCIS.
