On the opening weekend of the 2018 season, the Elizabeth Minutemen upset the perennial title contending Bridgewater-Raritan Panthers 35-28 at Williams Field in Elizabeth, NJ. After losing 35-0 to Bridgewater-Raritan to start off 2017, Elizabeth gave up the first TD of tonight's game, but then scored 21 straight points and took a 7-point lead into halftime. The 2nd half was a matchup of dynamic quarterbacks, as Bridgewater-Raritan's Alex Fromberg, in his first career start, capped a comeback with a 53-yard TD run to tie the game at 28 in the 4th quarter. However, Elizabeth QB LeShane Taylor had an 80-yard TD run on the very next play from scrimmage, which resulted in the winning touchdown for the Minutemen. Taylor finished with 170 pass yards and 2 TDs, plus 150 rush yards and 2 more TDs; Fromberg had 179 pass yards and 3 TDs, with 45 yards and a TD on the ground. Both teams are back in action next Friday, with Bridgewater-Raritan hosting Hillsborough and Elizabeth traveling to Union.
